Monoprinting

In this 3-hour workshop we'll be making monotypes — a printmaking method which also combines drawing and painting, and embraces a great degree of unpredictability and accident.

We will learn about:

  • trace monotypes: a simple technique to create printed paintings that focus on line rather than tone

  • painterly monotypes: working with tone, brushwork, and adding and removing ink on the plate to obtain special effects in our prints.

  • stencils: how to employ them and re-work "failed" prints with repeated printing passes

At the end of the session, you will take away a small collection of unique A5 monotype prints.
